19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents his initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface from March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He saved four early break points in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
