Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
